A door kick plate is a metal or alloy plate fitted to the lower portion of a door, typically on the ‘push’ side, to minimise damage from kicks and knocks. Kick plates will protect the finish of your door and can significantly prolong its lifespan, particularly in commercial environments with high foot traffic.

Benefits of using door kick plates

1. Easy installation

A great benefit of kick plates is that they can be installed in a matter of minutes and can be sized to your measurements. Choose from adhesive backing (two strips of double-sided tape fitted along the longest length) or pre-drilled countersunk screw holes.

2. Cost effectiveness

Although door kick plates are an additional cost, they are an extremely cost-effective solution over the long-term. By prolonging the lifespan of your doors, kick plates reduce the need for costly repairs, or worse, the need to replace your whole door if it were to be damaged by foot traffic, scratches, scuff marks or general wear and tear.

Common applications for door kick plates

Restaurants

You will often see kick plates in restaurants and cafes, particularly in high traffic areas such as the kitchen. This is due to staff having full hands and often kicking the door to open it. Kick plates are therefore essential for protecting doors from damage caused by frequent use.

Public transport facilities

Public transport facilities such as train stations and airports often incorporate push and kick plates into their design. With a continuously heavy flow of passengers and their luggage, it’s no surprise that doors in these spaces experience their fair share of scuffs and scrapes. Door kick plates remain functional, whilst maintaining that all-important aesthetic appeal.

Domestic spaces

Did you know kick plates can also be used in your home? Whilst perhaps more commonly associated with commercial spaces, plenty of homeowners choose to utilise them through their property. Adding kick plates to your entry ways, garages and outbuildings can minimise the need for repair work due to damage caused by daily activities, such as moving furniture or bringing items in and out of your house.

Although door protection plates can be made from vinyl or plastic, metal door kick plates are recommended due to being stronger and more durable.
