Simplicity of installation and the ease with which shelf heights and the quantity of shelves per bay can be adjusted make this system a very popular shelving solution.

The Cooke Brothers range of Shelf Support System products is extremely versitile, suitable for use in everything from domestic DIY projects to commercial applications. Not only is the system easy to install and fit, but once fitted, shelving can be quickly and simply re-configured to different heights.

Four different styles of bookcase strip (also known as Tonk strip) are available in a large variety of base metals and finishes. The choice of strip should be decided by whether the strip needs to be rebated and the load strength required. Five different styles of shelf support studs are available in base metals and finishes that match the shelf strips. Stud types are all designed to match each specific bookcase strip. We offer a complete range of shelf support products, enabling you to take the job right from start to finish, also available are shelf buffers and fastenings.

Our Shelf Support Systems come in 4 different styles and a wide range of finishes depending on your requirements. The type of Shelf Support System you require will be determined by both the load capacity requirements and whether or not the strip needs to be recessed when mounted.

Flat Bookcase
Traditional bookcase strip design for flush fitting by inserting into a pre-machined stepped groove.

Raised Bookcase
Commonly called "Top Hat" section because of its raised centre section, this strip is specifically designed for surface fitting.

M Section Universal Bookcase
Commonly called "M" section because of its distinctive profile, this design has the advantage that it can be inlaid or surface fitted.

U Section Bookcase
The "U" section shelving strip combines the strength of the Flat bookcase strip with the versatility of the raised section designs.

Rebate Cutters
There are three rebate cutters available for our range of Bookcase strips. Rebate cutters produce the rebate or groove for the bookcase to fit perfectly in place. A stepped cutter is designed for use with the flat bookcase strip and the other two cutters are for use with the Universal and U section bookcase strips.

Standard Lengths

The standard stock length is 1829mm (6ft). Special lengths can be produced to order for volumes in excess of 300 metres. Contact Cooke Brothers main sales for further information on prices and lead times for special lengths.

Cut to Length Service

Cooke Brothers provide a free cut to length service for shelf support strip. You can now order the exact size you need.

The minimum cut length is 200mm.
The maximum length is 2400mm.
Where necessary we will advise on length depending on hole positions.
For some plated finishes the maximum cut length is 1829mm.
The cutting process may not be suitable for some plated finishes.
Cut to length products are non-returnable.
Any cut edge may have a slight burr. Handling with gloves is recommended.
Tolerance on cut pieces +1/-2mm on length and +1/-1mm on squareness.

For orders within the UK we offer a standard 48 hour delivery service from the availability of stock in our warehouse.

Returns
Due to the items being cut to a specified length, they can no longer be returned or refunded unless they are faulty or incorrect. Please therefore ensure your requirements are correct before ordering.

Installing a Shelf Support System

Installing our Shelf Support Systems is quick and easy, take a look at our installation guide.

Four bookcase strips are inlaid or surface fitted onto the inside end faces of each shelving bay. Additional strips can be fitted to the back face of the shelving bay, reducing the risk of shelves sagging from heavy loads or long shelf spans.

The image illustrates where shelving strips should be placed. All shelving strips should be fitted from a common level starting point at the base of the shelving unit, with the embossed PHOENIX logo at the same end of each strip.

The use of shelving buffers will not only protect glass shelves from point loading but also assist should any warping of wooden shelves or slight misalignment of shelving strips be present.

Owing to variations in shelving and cabinet materials it is recommended that a shelf at the base of the cabinet is test loaded to the maximum anticipated loading per shelf before putting loads on the higher shelves.

For the safety of all users please ensure that the shelving unit is secure from falling forward when in use, and that individual shelves are not used for climbing upon to reach items high up as shelves are not restrained from sliding forwards. For additional security the shelving unit should be secured to the floor or wall, and individual wooden shelves can be secured in place from the underside using additional fastenings fitted through the 4mm diameter holes in the single studs.
