Heavy Duty Continuous Piano Hinges
Benefits of using a Heavy Duty Continuous Hinges
Heavy Duty hinges are tough, rigid and made of the highest quality material. Out of all continuous hinges, the heavy-duty continuous hinge is an ideal solution for a range of architectural applications with a range of benefits including added security and strength.
Well Suited to Any Environment
Heavy duty continuous hinges provide a sleek appearance and a smooth pivotal action due to the precise alignment; they leave no gaps between the door and the jam. These aesthetic hinges are available in a wide range of materials and finishes to suit the style of any environment.
Improved Safety
They are ideal for use in environments where safety and security are a key concern, such as high traffic commercial environments including schools, hospitals, and hotels. The reduced ligature design of a Heavy Duty Continuous Hinge presents fewer sharp edges reducing the risk of injury. This makes them the perfect solution in environments where children are present, as they help to prevent fingers from getting caught in doors.
Common applications for Heavy Duty Continuous Hinges
As with all continuous hinges, the heavy-duty hinges provide an aesthetically pleasing continuous line with a reduced ligature surface. The 4mm and the 5mm are the largest Continuous Hinges sizes available and are recommended for use on extra heavy-duty applications such as commercial or warehouse building door sets, blast doors, heavy duty fabrication, industrial plant housing etc.

Materials and Finishes
Our continuous hinges and pins have base materials of steel, aluminium, brass and stainless steel, all self-colours. They are available in a range of applied finishes to suit your requirements. These high-quality finishes include brass, brushed nickel, bronze, gold anodised, zinc, satin anodised, chrome and bronze anodised. There are also various options for the finish including brass, steel and zinc plated options.
Materials
Mild Steel
A strong base material generally used on internal applications rather than externally. This base material requires a protective finish in order to provide corrosion resistance. Many of our mild steel products are sold in self colour (unfinished) state for customers to apply their own finish. We do offer some of these finishes online, such as zinc-plating and powder coating. Other finishes are available by request.

Frequently Asked Questions
You may need two or more people to instal heavy duty piano hinges as the furniture is likely to be large and heavy. Ensure you have enough people to carry out the job safely and securely. Here we offer a slightly different approach to the piano hinge installation guide above:
- Clamp or fasten the two pieces of furniture together ensuring they are level and inline
- Measure up and put the hinge in place
- Put the first pilot hole in, ensuring there is a space between the end of the hinge and the first screw. Repeat this procedure until you have a pilot hole for each screw on both sides of the hinge
- Fit your hinge using the guide holes created in the previous steps
