Crafting Heritage: Bespoke Hinges For A Grade II Listed Home
August 2024
Preserving the character of heritage buildings is more than just a job to us; it’s our passion!
When the owner of a Grade II-listed house needed bespoke hinges to match the existing hardware for a refurbishment project, they asked us to deliver a solution that would respect the building’s heritage while providing modern functionality.
The project started when the client sent us a collection of original hinges in a shoebox, each representing a different style used throughout the house. Our challenge was to precisely replicate these hinges, ensuring that the new fittings would blend with the building’s existing hardware.
Drawing on our extensive experience in creating customised architectural hardware, we designed and manufactured a range of bespoke hinges, each crafted from polished brass to match the original fixtures. The project included a variety of hinge types—traditional butt hinges, cranked hinges, and even an unusual butterfly-shaped hinge, which we meticulously reproduced based on the original item provided by the owner.
Every detail matters for listed buildings, and we approached this project with the utmost care. Our team worked closely with the client to ensure that every hinge not only matched the aesthetic requirements but also upheld the heritage standards necessary for such properties. The result is a set of bespoke hinges that perfectly complement the house’s historical integrity.
