High Flying Hinges for Airbus

When North Wales Aeroforms Ltd was asked to supply aerospace engineering company Airbus with a versatile access platform system for access for plane maintenance, they turned to Cooke Brothers to provide hardwearing, versatile, bespoke hinges that would provide strong and stable support for the platforms with a nifty 180º rotational action and a special finish for extra durability.

Cooke Brothers designed and engineered special hinges with two female hinge leaves with a special powdered metallurgy finish block between the two leaves that allows the hinges to pivot 180º while maintaining optimal stability when it is rotated as the platforms are opened and closed.

Powder metallurgy is a manufacturing process where metal powders are compressed into the shape of a component and then heated, but not melted, in a process called sintering. This gives a strong molecular bond, creating a solid, strong component with an extremely hardwearing finish. This process, which is ideal for producing large quantities of precision parts efficiently, means that Cooke Brothers can make complex, customised, highly detailed parts with minimal waste that are perfect for high-performance applications like this one.
