Cooke Brothers Keep a Tag on Projection Hinges

Bespoke Projection Hinge

When TAG Urban Properties began developing Ferndale House – a red brick Victorian house in Edgbaston, Birmingham – into seven luxurious one-and two-bedroom apartments, they were keen to keep as many of the building’s attractive period features as possible in the new modern homes.

That included converting a floor-to-ceiling arched window into a striking set of double patio doors set deep into an attractive arched brick frame. Using a standard hinge would have made the doors foul against the arch. So TAG asked Cooke Brothers to design and make a special projection hinge that would pivot the door away from the brickwork and support the substantial weight of the doors. The hinges that Cooke Brothers created mean that the doors swing open cleanly, clearing the surrounding brickwork flawlessly.

Projection hinges are designed to overcome tricky openings where standard hinges just wouldn’t work. By offsetting the pivot point, they allow doors to swing clear of surrounding frames, cladding or deep reveals, perfect for doors with restricted clearance.
